Antidiscrimination bill discriminates people, opinions

Moldova does not need a law on the prevention and combating of discrimination and the fact that the Government approved such a bill is scandalous. Related statements were made by the former Minister of National Security Anatol Plugaru, the leader of the Third Force Movement Valeriu Plesca and the deputy head of the Christian Democratic People’s Party Radu Busila in a news conference on July 25.

"This antidiscrimination law makes us, the normal people who reproduce normally to be equal with the necrophiles, zoophiles and pedophiles," said Anatol Plugaru. According to him, the things that the Moldovan people need have been already stipulated in the Constitution.

"We cannot accept to educate our children and built healthy families in such conditions. That's why they should be stopped. The bill in fact discriminates not the sexual minorities, but the majority of the people in this country," said the former Minister of National Security.

Valeriu Plesca said a new law is necessary where something needs to be regulated, but nothing is to be regulated in this case. He stated that together with Anatol Plugaru and Radu Busila, he tried to find facts when and where representatives of sexual minorities were discriminated, but could not find such cases in the administrative practice.

Radu Busila said the approval of this bill by the Government and its submission to Parliament represent defiance of the Moldovan legislation and the Christian tradition that is centuries old. "This is a shameful and regrettable concession," he stressed, adding that there is no honorable legal, political or moral reason that would justify this initiative.

The antidiscrimination bill was approved by the executive on February 17.
