20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.

Democrats claim that Filat's appeal has already led to emergence of LDPM/MCP coalitions in provincial localities

Prime Minister Vladimir Filat's address to the nation is already bringing first fruit - Liberal Democratic/Communist coalition in the localities, says the Democratic Party.

The DP leadership wrote in its press release today that in the Briceni Raion, an LDPM/MCP coalition was formed on Wednesday, which has elected a Liberal Democrat as Raion Chairperson and a Communist as Deputy Chairperson.

"There, the DP and LP factions were ignored, so their representatives did not participate in the voting. All this happened despite the agreement, reached only the day before by the LDPM, DP and LP raion councilors, to create a democratic coalition, and the agreement was going to be officially announced after the Premier's appeal", said the DP press release.

According to the document, an analogous story happened in the Edinet Raion, where two Liberal Democrats helped to elect a Communist Raion Chairperson.

"The authors of the memorable call to concluding an agreement on forming AEI coalitions in raions - the Liberal Democrats - have thus behaved like Pharisees. They themselves delayed the negotiations on the said agreement, and the delay led to a critical situation in the localities. It was exactly the Liberal Democratic Party Chairman, Vladimir Filat, who was warning that a party, which would enter into a union with the Communists, would thus annihilate the governing alliance. So, the DP is abstaining from any further statements, in anticipation of explanations to be heard from the Liberal Democratic Party", said the DP press release.

The DP Chairman, Moldova's Acting President and Speaker of Parliament Marian Lupu has announced convocation of the Alliance for European Integration on Wednesday evening to discuss this situation.
